About Me

Welcome to my user page! My name is Andrew Mattson, and I am currently a student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). I am pursuing a combined Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science. Also check out my website.
Academic and Professional Background
At UAF, I tutor mathematics and work on research projects related to AI and robotics while taking classes for my degrees.
Current Projects
- NASA X-HAB: I am leading the Aurora Robotics Team at UAF in NASA's X-Hab Academic Innovation Challenge, where we are developing LUMIN and LAMP. I am also the administrator of this MediaWiki page.
- LUMINSim: I am working on developing a robotic simulator for lunar mining and infrastructure, tentatively named 'LUMINSim' (Lunar Mining and Infrastructure Network Simulator), as it effectively simulates the LUMIN system. This project involves aspects of autonomous control, communication, and terrain generation using Godot 4 and C++. This project is integral to my master's thesis.
Skills and Interests
- Programming: Skilled in Python, C, C++, and GDScript, with some knowledge of C#, JavaScript, and others. Experienced in developing simulations, AI algorithms, and server applications.
- Robotics: Interest in autonomous control systems, particularly for lunar exploration, including aspects like collision prevention and modular robot design.
- Artificial Intelligence: Enthusiastic about learning and applying AI techniques to solve complex problems in robotics and simulations.
- Leadership: Leader of the Aurora Robotics Team, where I coordinate efforts on projects such as the eXploration Habitat (X-Hab) Challenge.
